Hello friends!
I’ve got a lot to share with you today, from a new video, a follow up on a previous video, and an update on the channel, so let’s get right to it.
The Insane Musical Math of DJ Premier and Mos Def
The Mos Def song “Mathematics” is amazing, and after diving all the way into it, I discovered that it’s really a balanced math equation. In other words, the music and lyrics are saying the same thing, just in different ways. DJ Premier has said that he likes to make a song that matches whatever the lyrics say, and man… it gets pretty crazy, and VERY mathematical.
“This Christmas” Heist Update
In December, I did a video on Donny Hathaway’s classic song “This Christmas” and launched a Christmas Heist to make the song hit Number 1. I heard from many of you who were diligently streaming the 80 hour Spotify playlist along with me, and while “This Christmas” didn’t hit number 1, WE DID MOVE THE NEEDLE!
That’s right - “This Christmas entered the Billboard Hot 100 in the first week of January of 2021 (so, really the 2020 Christmas season) at number 39 before dropping off. So, for the 2020 season, 1 week, peaking at number 39.
During the Christmas of 2021, This Christmas did not crack the top 100.
BUT This past Christmas, 2022, after streaming our insanely long Spotify playlist, This Christmas re-entered the hot 100 at number 47, followed by a second week when it hit number 37.
In other words - we made that happen. We made “This Christmas” stay on the chart longer and higher than ever before. THAT is incredible, inspirational, and has made me already start to plan out what we’re gonna have to do for Christmas 2023…

Once you reach 100,000 subscribers, YouTube sends you a silver play button to commemorate it, and this is still really crazy to me. THANK YOU to everyone for watching and subscribing and supporting the channel - I’m having SO much fun making these videos and connecting with people and cannot wait to share with you the other stuff coming this year.
And while the silver play button is nice, the 100k subscriber livestream was even better since I got to hang out with all of YOU.
